Get trade with everybody to help build your economy. Scythia: Their starting economy is crap, but their steppe warfare style is unmatched. Hit Pergamum early, then take the rest of Asia Minor (Pontus before Halicarnassus) and also hit Egypt and Parthia early. The Seleucid Empire - So do you fancy taking on four factions at once with no allies, Militia Hoplites and a lot of luck? Great fun, but your starting position is terrible. You also have few decent units below MInor City level. You have to take all of Asia Minor and the Greek Islands, before you are really financially secure. You have to steamroller Pontus immediately or you lose. Armenia - They are harder to play than the others, but not hugely difficult. You fight the Greeks and Macedonians (Carthage as well if you are smart and beat the Scipii to Syracuse and Lilybaeum). Brutii - Although they are Roman, the experience is totally different to the Julii.Armoured Hoplites are easily the best civilised infantry unit available at Minor City level and an army of 10 Armoured Hoplites, 5 Greek Cavalry, 2 Cretan Archers, 2 Rhodian Slingers and a decent General can take down just about anything that isn't solely based on purely missile units. You are in a position to completely control the Aegean early, netting the complete income from the most profitable area on the map. Losing money is difficult if you build your economy up properly. The Greek Cities - My favourite faction.the bare-chested Desert Axeman had an armour rating of 11 pre 1.2). Basically, they are the most overpowered faction in the game (although they have been toned down a little eg. Your chariots are great, your Hoplites are pretty good too. You have the best archers in the game (although Forresters can be better if you upgrade them properly), Desert Cavalry are great for killing just about anything except heavy infantry, Elephants or Chariots. The Nile valley is the best area on the map for growth bar none. Spain is good for making money too when it is properly developed. Your early infantry is crap, but Carthage is a great city and you are well positioned to dominate Sicily. I wouldn't bother with a stone-walled city though, because the Boiling Oil will run them amok in no time. You can arrive and attack in the same turn on anything up to Stone Walls. You get Elephants, which are like siege weapons. Carthage - Sacred Band (Infantry and Cavalry) are great.
